Concerns have been raised about the risk posed to public health by metalwork, razor wire and other hazardous items at a beach in Bembridge.
Recent bad weather has resulted in debris being dislodged and thrown onto the beach at Bembridge Point, with metal poles and other sharp-edged items now scattered around.
Bembridge Harbour Authority say they have been made aware of the situation and will be moving, securing and marking all of the items this morning (Wednesday) ready for disposal on Thursday morning.
Bembridge Harbour Trust says that the situation was ‘totally predictable’ due to the failure to repair a groyne at the entrance of the Harbour.
Locals are being urged to take extra care and stay well away from any hazardous material on the beach.
How come this has been ‘allowed’ to become a hazard that has fallen onto the beach?
Razor wire has been illegal to use in this country for years!
Places that use it are subject to legal penalties and fines, so why has this been allowed to exist for so long and now become a direct physical danger rather than an illegal security feature?
its been washed up. it could have come from anywhere and is probably donkeys years old.
Actually, this has fallen down from the perimeter fence of the aggregate plant on Bembridge Point. We alked around there before lockdown 1 and were not impressed how this plant (not named on any map I can find) was intruding on walkers’ access rights. And there was definitely razor wire on top of the fence then.
