COVID CONSPIRACY THEORISTS ARE NOT WELCOME ON THE ISLE OF WIGHT

COVID conspiracy theorists are not welcome on the Isle of Wight, the leader of the council has said.

Isle of Wight Council representatives have been receiving emails claiming the coronavirus, which in some cases is deadly, is not real and lockdowns are not necessary.

Councillor Clare Mosdell, the council’s cabinet member for adult social care, public health and housing needs said she has already received 2 today (Thursday).

Speaking at a meeting of the Local Outbreak Engagement Board (LOEB) earlier this afternoon, Cllr Mosdell said people need to understand councillors have feelings and they are each going through their own individual battles which makes receiving conspiracy emails even more difficult.

Sharing how COVID-19 has impacted her family, with 3 members of her family contracting the virus, Cllr Mosdell told the LOEB she was not able to visit her 80-year-old mother, who has been hit hard by the virus, to tell her the news that a friend had died due to Covid. She said:

“I really struggle with this. I know no one wants to walk in someone else’s shoes but you want to have a few days in mine just after Christmas when my mum was so desperately ill to understand how real and how scary Covid really is.

“We need to not be complacent, it is not a conspiracy and we are all doing our best to keep our community safe.”

Cllr Dave Stewart, leader of the council, told anyone who might want to send him a conspiracy theory about how COVID is not real ‘don’t bother’. He said:

“This is real, we want to get through this – we are getting through this with tremendous work going on and we will leave [conspiracy theorists] flagging behind because they are not the kind of people we want on the Island, giving those kind of messages.”

On the Island, the 7-day case rate is falling from its peak in January. To date, 6,447 people have tested positive for the virus with more than 220 people dying.

That is a conspiracy in its self. Brought over by visitors. If that is true why is Newport the worst area on the island and not the port areas??

Inciting Intolerance of other peoples beliefs.

This is disgusting behaviour.

Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs without persecution by government.

As long as they don’t put pressure on the NHS they can believe what they want but when it comes to photographing “empty corridors” and claiming the Health Service is not under pressure then they should be dealt with.

Wow. Good luck with that. Controlling freedom of speech is one thing, and what, now the freedom of thought ? Just a reminder. Civil servants serve the people, not control.

Exactly – they’re meant to protect the freedom of the people, not give them the freedom. People are inherently free.

‘My Mind’ … why do you call yourself that when you clearly don’t have one. You gave it away to authority a long time ago and now you confuse what they say with what you think. The fact that you have to ask those questions when the answers are obvious is a shocker. But, hey, just go on thinking what they tell you to think My Mind, sorry, THEIR Mind. I guess you wouldn’t know that the term ‘conspiracy theorist’ came into widespread use through the CIA which urged major US media organisations to use it in the 1960s to discredit those people who outrageously would not believe that President Kennedy was shot in the front of the head with a bullet from behind. Now it is endlessly repeated for the same reason by authorities and by people who have no idea that the CIA is the source of it.… Read more »

Free speech even if not agreed with, is more deadly to humanity than any virus.

I don’t doubt CV is real, but people should be allowed their views. Enough get taken off on here if re the c o u n c il.

People USED to walk about with sandwich boards proclaiming ‘The End is Nigh’ YET we never had to quash their idiotic views

IF overly frail those reading the emails should leave and allow strong minded people to work their instead.

Why is it you see Island Roads, Amey and other builders and utility vehicles with many people in the cab
Practically sitting on each other with NO MASKS ON!
Yet the Ambulance staff and Police do it right and wear Masks!
Well done to them.
Are all the other Companies exempt from Covid, or are they playing a Dangerous Game!
It amazes me still people in shops with NO MASKS ON!
This is Serious, I have had relations who caught Covid IT IS NOT A NORMAL COLD.

The vast majority will be fine and suffer none or very few symptoms – on balance of probability they actually do not need to bother with masks or social distancing as the risk is very low. Hence they aren’t bothering.

all this hype and measures is aimed at those who are old etc etc

It’s so good to have someone on this forum who knows so much more than all the thousands of scientific and medical people who have studied all their adult lives in this field. Even if what you say is true, isn’t it still worth taking safeguards to protect those unfortunate enough to be vulnerable (for whatever reason) and at risk? Isn’t that what a caring society is?

What gives Cllr Dave Stewart the right to determine which people “we want on the Island”? Does he think he owns the place? And who exactly are the “we” he refers to? Yes, these people are imbeciles, but they have as much right to be here as he does.

I have been an islander all my life. The only conspiracy is those who believe this Covid rubbish. Death rates in the last two years are average for the last 10 years in the UK. Explain that. The majority of people online think it is bullshit. It is not a conspiracy when the majority think it is lies. Covid exists but it does NOT cause deaths. Nothing more than a minor version of the flu that effects ONLY people with underlying health issues. If idiots want to take these injections filled with god knows what then good, I’m all for Darwinism.

How desperate to keep the control going , by writing an article like this! Shows me that they ,the liars ( government) are losing their grip . They certainly have up the fear factor with their ads on TV and radio. Seems maybe that people are starting to see how ridiculous all this is? 10 yes prison for not telling where you came back from, really? This is how ridiculous it has all become.
