The Isle of Wight’s COVID-19 testing centre is now open 7 days a week, it has been announced.
The centre at Newclose County Cricket Ground, on the outskirts of Newport, will also be open for longer each day — from 08:30 until 16:30, including Sundays for the first time.
The changes will enable more tests to be carried out as needed, but comes at a time when the number of cases is falling rapidly across the Island.
People with COVID-19 symptoms who are unable to get a test slot online should call 119 and will then be advised of available appointments. Home testing kits can also be ordered online or via 119.
Simon Bryant, the Island’s director of public health, said:
“It remains extremely important that we all stick to the guidelines and stay at home – only leave home to purchase essential items, get a COVID-19 test, for exercise or to work if you absolutely cannot work from home.
“If you develop symptoms of COVID-19, self-isolate and don’t leave home for any reason except to get a test.”

Lets hope soon it won’t be needed at all.
You would hope so, but as was proved yesterday no one is policing the ferries, so half term will probably bring the South African variant here.
Lets all stay in so less of us will need this place. Stay safe all.
Right.so go get tested . Even though your unlikely too get very ill…just so they can you any positives too then scare! Yawn
Don’t bother.
Half the country knows it’s ridiculous. The only conspiracy is the Darwin award idiots who think this minor flu virus is worth the time of day.
The only idiots around here are the covidiots like yourself and a couple of hangers on, and where do you get your information from re half the country, well done as you are todays winner of the dunces hat
The information is all over social media. Look at BBC, Sky or any news media YouTube channels or facebook. Many thousands of views and opinions, mostly dislikes, and the vast majority are from people who are awake. I was being generous when I said half, it is more like 75%. If you are happy being an unintelligent government sheep then good for you.
You stupid cow try telling that to my father who has just died of Covid
My condolences Ron for your loss unfortuneatley the last few comments from the covidiots are an insult to people like yourself, you cannot teach stupid which they appear to have in abundance.
With respect, your father did not die from Covid. No one dies from Covid. Don’t believe me then ask for a post mortem and see what they say. Your father died from natural causes or some underlying issue.
Sweden got it right.
“By using sensible – voluntary – measures that have been carefully crafted to limit the negative impacts on individuals as well as society as a whole, Sweden has hugely outperformed the UK in terms of collateral damage, as well as the most crucial metric of all: overall mortality. This graphic shows in crystal-clear detail how deaths involving Covid in Sweden have plummeted and continue to fall”
