Last week GCSE and Sixth Form students at Christ the King College performed Stephen Sondheim’s ‘Into the Woods’.
Students took on the challenge of the score and storyline to create an enigmatic, energetic and engaging performance. There was a strong sense of ensemble and students rising to the challenge of tackling such an ambitious score, with fast paced staging and comic storytelling.
The cast were accompanied by a 13 piece orchestra made up of some of the best musicians on the Island, with 2 of them being Sixth Form students at the College.
It was the first time a full theatre orchestra has been used for a production at Christ the King College and, whilst this seemed to take many of the cast by surprise the first time they performed with the orchestra at the dress rehearsal, the 2 performances of ‘Into the Woods’ definitely had an added professionalism. The bar has been raised.
This production was a real triumph – a believable, well-choreographed and technically executed performance. Students did Sondheim and the College proud.
