Sainsbury’s West Cowes has recently launched their partnership with their new Local Charity of the Year, the Isle of Wight Homeless Shelter.
The Isle of Wight Homeless Shelter was chosen by Sainsbury’s customers through a public vote in store and online in June. The charity will now receive a year’s worth of support through fundraising and awareness raising from the store.
Representatives from the charity joined Sainsbury’s colleagues over the weekend to kick start the partnership by Sainsburys employees dressing up as pirates and Andy and Ruth from the homeless shelter came in store to raise awareness.
Andy Davis, charity founder at the Isle of Wight homeless shelter, said:
“Thank you to everyone who came to support us at Sainsbury’s West Cowes over the weekend. We’re looking forward to working with the store over the next year and hope to raise funds and awareness for the Isle of Wight homeless shelter.”
Maria Bird, Store Manager at Sainsbury’s West Cowes, added:
“We had a very successful launch for our new Local Charity of the Year, the Isle of Wight homeless shelter. I’d like to thank all of our customers for their support. ”
The Local Charity of the Year scheme is now in its eighth year and has raised over £11 million to support local charities since 2009.
