Over 1,200 staff members from the Isle of Wight NHS Trust have already been vaccinated against COVID-19, it has been revealed.
Frontline workers have been given a much needed boost in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic with the knowledge they are now building immunity to the killer virus. Nurses to porters, doctors to paramedics and everyone in between, including community first responders, have been given the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.
A vaccination hub went live at St Mary’s Hospital on Thursday evening allowing the number of frontline health workers being vaccinated to be ramped up significantly. Vaccinations are already underway once again this morning (Sunday) with the hub working 7 days a week.
It’s hoped that all 3,000 NHS Trust staff will be vaccinated within just 2-3 weeks.
The hub has also been established to protect health and care staff from the private sector with workers from care homes and other facilities being invited in for their jab too.
As the number of people admitted to hospital increases, the vaccination of NHS staff will significantly help in maintaining staffing levels at this crucial time.
It’s known that over 4,000 Islanders have now been vaccinated against COVID-19, a number which is expected to increase to 10,000 in the next few days. It’s thought that between 7-9% of the population will be vaccinated by the end of next week, with daily figures set to be released from Monday.
It’s calculated that around 25,000 local residents need to be vaccinated to protect the most at risk – the over 70s. To meet the Government’s target of achieving this by mid-February, the Island will need to vaccinate 3,500 people a week, a number that is realistically achievable.
Bob Seely MP has called on the Health Secretary Matt Hancock to prioritise the Island due to our above-average elderly population. Furthermore, the Island is seeing cases increase quicker than almost anywhere else in the country, adding to the risk of transmission.
Alice Webster, Director of Nursing and Midwifery, said:
“I am incredibly proud of what we are all achieving together and I have hope that with the roll-out of the vaccine, and people staying at home for us all, we will start to see some light at the end of what is an incredibly difficult time for everyone.”

This is excellent news. Their job is hard enough as it is with so many ignoring the lock down. I am looking forward to my jab.
Now no excuses for the NHS doctors, to not treat those poor on the health service registers anymore. Our gutters need clearing and it is hard to find workmen to do such now.
The vaccine does not stop you catching or spreading covid so the excuse is still in place.
do it yourself.
i hope they dont waste any on the GPs they have been hiding from last march. they should be at the very end of the que
GPS have been working the whole time, get your facts right. They should be top of the list for jabs.
ok sorry was it you that called my gp at least ten time since last march? No it wasn’t
no all i got was a stroppy women on the front desk telling me no gps available that’s nearly 10 months i had to do a online consultation if that’s what you call it. A email i asked for meds that iv never had before two days later they are waiting for me at the chemist. No questions asked.
My facts are right.
They should be at the end of the que.
No one wants this vaccine. Look at YouTube and BBC, latest video has 60k dislikes to 1k likes and the comments say everything. No one believes the lies anymore. Those lacking in intelligence are welcome to it.
I doubt the rumour it is designed to kill people is true, but certainly it can’t be 100% tested, may be worth waiting for a year or so to see if any terrible side effects occur. I will wait, but take it next year.
i have the virus i would gladly take the vaccine right now. i thought this was all a hoax but trust me it is not and it is not very nice.
wait until you meet some one who has it before you make up your mind.
You probably have a cold or the flu as the covid tests are wrong by 93% the government have admitted and the covid virus has never been proven or isolated in a human.Remember the old days when everyone had a cold or the flu in January, funny that it no longer exists “covid” must be able to wipe out other viruses too
iv had lots of colds and iv had flu this is nothing like them. at first i was think its just a cold then i thought i had a bug until it hit me real high temp worst headache ever and i suffer with migraine so i know what a bad head feels like then get ready for the pain all over the body falling to sleep every ten mins i was lucky i never felt sick but my wife was a few times. restless nights too hot to sleep shivering the list goes on. im about over the worst now. My breathing hasn’t been too bad but its not right.
iv had a bad head for 13 days now with out a brake from pain. the top of my head feels like iv got a sun burn and hurts to tuch.
It might be flu but i dont think it is.
No offense but your spelling and grammar is awful. You most likely have dementia in your old age, not a minor flu virus like Covid.
Whilst accepting a differing opinion, there is no need to be rude to anyone.
This poor guy is clearly having a rough and worrying time.
Show respect.
We all doubt the Gov’s of the world now, knowing them as huge liars, but people are suffering, and likely Gov’s play on it, but doesn’t mean it is not horrific for those catching this

Not a hoax,a hijack!
Simpleton
Sheep! I do have friends with it and they’re dealing with it just like you do flu or cold, not dying, not suffering like the news is making out. So I have to disagree with you there. If you want to inject toxins and chemicals into your natural human body then crack on, but don’t force it on the rest of us! I’m not anti vax, I’m PRO CHOICE
Did you see the BBC report on the ‘harrowing scenes inside an NHS hospital’? One old lady on a bed with some illness. More ‘harrowing scenes’ on a daily episode of EastEnders. If it was so bad why aren’t the military in building mobile hospitals with all the tax funds they have available specifically for this. They are laughing at us. The only simpletons are the ones still buying into this.
You are mindlessly following a garbage conspiracy theory you read on facebook written by some sad act in their mums basement and you have the nerve to call other people “sheep”
And those with a lack of intelligence like yours NEED it !
Another Covidiot that reads and watches unreliable fake news.
I sincerely hope those same staff will receive their second vital injection within the three weeks originally advised to maximise their (and ultimately our) protection.
What about all other key workers? The cleaners, supermarket workers and people who work in agriculture etc etc?? They are also putting themselves at high risk.
When driving along roads on the Island, look out and see how many company vehicles are being driven with 2 or 3 persons in the vehicles with no Masks on.
The Waste Vehicles, Utility Vehicles and Island Roads to name a few.
Yet Ambulance crews wear masks when going along
