Newly-formed Island band Nakamarra are set to release their debut single entitled ‘Porcupine’.
The band was set up by Jamie Sprosen, 19 and Joe Watson, 21 whilst studying for a music degree at Platform One College of Music. They’ve now been joined by locals Charlie Jones, 20; Alex Benson, 20 and Silas Gregory, 21.
Nakamarra was set up as a trip-hop project in the later months of 2015 before the band fully formed in January 2016, taking a more eclectic musical direction from the addition of vocals, drums and bass.
Nakamarra’s style blends a range of influences from acts such as Foals, Mt Wolf to more electronic acts like Bonobo, Massive Attack and Mount Kimbie. The band creates an exciting mix of genres from indiealternative to more electronic & atmospheric vibes, due to the vast musical tastes of those in the band.
The first single ‘Porcupine’ is being released on Isle of Wight Independent Record label Chalkpit Records and will be available for free download on Saturday 14th May via Soundcloud & Bandcamp.
The band’s debut performance will be at the Chalkpit Records Indie Showcase night at The Blacksheep Bar, Ryde on Friday 13th May where Nakamarra will be supporting XOCKHA with Chalkpit Records’ other rostered band Ecsess, who will also be making their debut performance.
Nakamarra and Ecsess will have a limited physical run of the joint single’s released by Chalkpit Records which will be available on the night.
