The annual Isle of Wight Memorial Ploughing Match has been cancelled for the second year running.
Although it is several months until the event was scheduled to take place, organisers say that in the current situation there is a lack of any degree of certainty that all those who plough, work voluntarily and the visiting public would be safe attending in 2021.
It’s thought to be the first main 2021 event to be cancelled, indicating a possible trend for events in March, April and May.
A spokesperson has said in a statement:
“Despite the current lockdown, we hope that the delivery of the vaccine over the coming months will prove successful and that this terrible situation will be over and life will return to normal to enable to us have a match in 2022”.
The match was cancelled in 2020 too amid poor weather and the developing situation with the coronavirus pandemic. The cancellation was made just days before the first national lockdown.
