Police have been cracking down on littering in the town of Brading with one McDonalds fan out of luck – thanks to a discarded receipt.
PSCOs from the Ryde Neighbourhood Policing Team have responded to reports from Brading Town Council about the growing issue of littering in and around the area.
Following up on these reports, earlier today (Saturday) officers came across a McDonalds takeaway that had been dumped in a local car park.
The litter bugs were silly enough to leave their till receipt in amongst the rubbish, which has in turn enabled officers to make enquiries at McDonalds drive-thru in Ryde to identify the offender.
Sgt Jason Taylor has said:
“Whilst this may seem a trivial matter, we all have our part to play in keeping our community clean and tidy and quite frankly there is no excuse when a bin is only a matter of yards away.
“This McNugget has been given back their rubbish to be disposed of accordingly!”
I hope they are fined more than the takeaway meal.

All DRIVE THROUGH food outlets should be forced by LAW to emboss the registration number of the vehicle ordering the food onto every lid, box, cup, and packaging, then, if any littering occurs, three strikes and the low life is banned for a year.
Cheap, good marketing point for Mc D’s to be the first IF they take up my suggestion I want 500 a week for life, index linked.
Why not just be happy that the problem is being dealt with. Surely that’s reward enough.
Already been suggested many times so why haven’t the drive through outlets done this, it’s still a good, easy to implement, thing to do.
Likely the council can now ‘charge’ takeaways more for ‘the clean up costs’ but, then keep the money for something which benefits them far more.
Embossed or printed packaging is a good idea, easy to do with Vehicle number plate readers and printers.
I guess the outlets don’t wish to ban it’s own customers, but, as we all know, few would be, and the environmentalist and greens would support such, gaining more trade than the low life losses imo.

How come Brading used to be a great place, but now it seems to be the biggest dump
on the island. The village is scruffy , has one of the highest corona virus figures and
the inhabitants are rough.

One is certain that if one suggested than swine enclosed in a pen could understand and then verbally respond, that they too would inform the derogatory speaker that they are clean animals, and it is of no fault of their own they now wallow in mud and their own squalor.

Nice to know that while all other forces bemoan their shortage of staff, the Island old bill, even in these troubled times, are so well organised that they can spare the time to pursue a litterbug.
so, this is what we are paying for through our council tax and other taxes then – highly paid, lazy, litter monitors.
I am guessing that the in tray of the police has no old crimes to solve in it, no burglaries to follow up on that happened a while ago, you know, hunting down suspects.

PLOD – instead of hiding in your stations, looking at twitter for people using the wrong pronouns or sitting in a car looking for someone doing 31mph in a 30 zone or sending an armed response unit, because someone opened their front door and put a foot on the concrete for a non essential journey, why don’t you actually do your jobs and solve, prevent and investigate some real crime. The hardened criminals must be loving it right now, because the police are so weak and ineffective.

doesn’t matter – they can still be tasked more appropriately – the council should be covering this aspect of street hygiene as it is their job to keep the place clean – not the police

How about they look around KFC in Newport, the areas often littered with takeaway rubbish, along with Matalan carpark.
One way to stop the litter is to close the outlets.
Or make the outlets pay a fine for eachcase of littering. That would concentrate their minds wonderfully!

It’s not the outlets that are the issue, it’s the age group of the people who mostly use it for drive through in their chav cars, no normal person goes to Tesco and then throws all the rubbish out the window, fines and points on the driving licence is the answer, unfortunately though there are no visible police on the island so that won’t happen
Loads of house riders riding in big groups breaking the rules too. The police need to visit all the stables and remind them of the rules.

Although this kind of littering is disgusting, I have watched seagulls pulling takeaway bags out of bins straight after they have been disposed of correctly, I hope the police bear this in mind when issuing fines.

It’s not just McRubbish in Brading. The seafront in Ryde by the boating lake is often heavily festooned with McDonald packaging. Even if the bins on the front do get full, they could take it home with them. They have no pride in themselves or respect for the area and local people who live there. Lazy and yes, should be fined.
