Island businesses came together to learn more about the important work of Isle of Wight Youth Trust at The Royal Hotel in Ventnor on Wednesday.
Guests were treated to canapes and drinks, courtesy of The Royal, before viewing a short video, produced by Wight Media Services, featuring stories about the Youth Trust’s work from Director, Eileen Monks OBE; Patron, Rob da Bank; Trustees and also young people that have used the Youth Trust’s services.
Rob da Bank then spoke about the 12 year relationship between Bestival and Nisha Pillai quizzed Eileen about the pressures facing children and young people on the Isle of Wight.
Eileen Monks OBE said:
“Children and young people are facing more pressures now than ever before and the Youth Trust needs to expand to keep up with demand.
“In addition to the problems facing many children and young people throughout the country, Island children also have to face issues that their peers in neighbouring regions don’t. We have the highest rate of bullying in the country and are seeing an increasing number of clients with more in depth difficulties than ever before. We need island solutions to island problems.
“Businesses play an important part in supporting our work and by signing up as business sponsors, they are making a contribution to the health of our community. They can contribute to a future in which they can do well by doing good.”
Businesses were asked to sign up to Gold, Silver and Bronze business packages. These packages award businesses that support the Youth Trust at varying levels. Awards include VIP Bestival tickets, plus many more.
Gold Partners Wightlink, The Royal Hotel and Bestival were represented at the event each making donations in excess of £10,000 over the last 12 months.
