Wightlink is urging its customers to follow the Government rules, reinforcing that Tier 4 residents should not be travelling to the Isle of Wight.
As previously reported by Island Echo, a Tier 4 ‘stay at home’ lockdown now applies in Portsmouth, as well as in London and much of the South East, to stop the spread of coronavirus.
Although Wightlink’s Portsmouth-Fishbourne route continues to carry freight, key workers and others who need to travel to and from the Island, those who are escaping Tier 4 areas against the regulations are not welcome. People in Tier 4 must not travel to the Isle of Wight for non-essential reasons and must not stay away overnight.
Equally, Isle of Wight residents must not go into Tier 4 areas unless they are travelling for essential reasons, such as work, education and caring for vulnerable people. Islanders who wish to go to the mainland are reminded that Wightlink’s ferries from Yarmouth arrive in Lymington, which is in Tier 2.
Those who had planned to travel with Wightlink for a non-essential reason can rebook to another date without charge.
Wightlink says it will review demand and future bookings over the next few days and customers should expect changes to timetables, which could well result in the Fastcat catamaran being suspended again.

Too little, too late. Again.
They are just selfish inconsiderate people,we come over to the island often but no way would we do what they have done, Stay Safe Everyone
wightlink and red funnel do not give a f–k about anyone on the island as long as they make money Telling people in Tier 4 not to travel is like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted
Yesterday I saw a Matt black Rolls Royce over here and I see two Bentleys both very new so they don’t live here I would of thought so it’s got to be second home owners or they are letting friends use them . There are some very selfish people out there that just won’t abide by the covid rules and they don’t care if they bring it with them
Yes , there is an obvious abundance of highly priced visiting vehicles all around Ryde . I.e. how many Lamborghini’s are there on the island as most roads are unsuitable for such (I know as I have a high end car , but not a super car , and you can’t keep it going on the island , too small , not enough distance , it would forever need servicing or parts replacing !!)
They’ll be here for the planned shoot days on the island – all from tiers which shouldn’t be staying overnight with others
The government has commissioned the COVID passport. Meaning your freedom of movement will depend on your status. The COVID apartheid. welcome to tyranny!!!
Why do islanders keep blaming the ferry companies for letting Tier four on the island.
What about all the services on the island that are housing and feeding them. Where do you stop.
Wightlink are going to ask us islanders for our support if they go on strike soon then they can think again
I’m not going to let these selfish and inconsiderate people ruin my Christmas, if you’re going out to eat go somewhere they are only letting tier 1 in, some places are doing it . Then in the future remember the places that tried to put Islanders first.
Can we name and shame those bad establishments to get them to change their attitude or be totally boycotted, and like wise celebrate the establishments that are doing the right thing. I would certainly avoid any establishment knowingly serving tier 3 and 4 visitors for the rest of my life.
