St George’s School in Newport has received a donation of gift cards from Sainsbury’s Newport, which has helped to fund healthy eating ingredients.
The school use mid-morning snack times as important opportunities to develop healthy lifestyles and independent living. Students make healthy choices as to the content of their snacks and take responsibility for preparing their own snacks and developing the relevant skills to do this.
With the donation, which has been made possible through the store’s Community Budget, staff at St Goerge’s have been able to provide classes with fresh fruit and vegetables for snack times along with some other healthy snack items.
In food technology lessons and the Sixth Form hospitality group students have been exploring making snacks from fruit such as fruit salad and fruit smoothies.
