Children and young people’s cancer support charity CLIC Sargent is calling out for Hair-os on the Isle of Wight to get wiggy for its annual Wig Wednesday fundraiser on 25th May.
The charity is looking for people to be sponsored to sport wacky wigs in schools, colleges and workplaces and nominate their friends or colleagues to do the same.
Funds raised from Wig Wednesday will go towards CLIC Sargent’s work providing vital support when a child or young person is given the devastating news they have cancer.
The charity’s work in the region includes a team of CLIC Sargent Nurses who provide treatment and care, a team of CLIC Sargent Social Workers based at Southampton General hospital who are there every step of the way for young people and their families during treatment, providing emotional support and practical help with finances and benefits.
The charity also provides free accommodation for families as the journey is so far, next to Southampton General hospital at its ‘Home from Home’ called CLIC Haven, which means families can stay nearby to their loved one during cancer treatment.
Joy Morley, CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manger for Isle of Wight, said:
“We have so many people signing-up already but we want the whole of Isle of Wight to support those in their area that are going through a childhood cancer diagnosis, so please sign-up today and join the nation in being a hair-o.
“Wig Wednesday is a great chance to have a bit of fun for the day while raising funds for children and young people with cancer.
“We’re looking for Hair-os to organise Wig Wednesday events at schools, colleges, workplaces and with friends.
“Even if you don’t fancy wearing a wig yourself, you can choose to nominate and sponsor a friend, teacher, colleague, or even your boss to get wiggy with it on the day!
“The money raised by our Hair-os will fund our amazing team of CLIC Sargent Nurses, Social Workers and other services which all help children, young people and their families through the hardest of times.”
