Earl Mountbatten Hospice’s Ventnor shop manager Jayne Deas had a lovely birthday surprise after winning first prize in the town’s carnival window competition.
The shop regularly takes part in the competition to create themed window displays during carnival season in August and at Christmas.
Jayne said:
“Most of the shops take part as Ventnor is a close knit community. We normally start planning for these events a few months ahead asking our Hospice warehouse to look out for items we require, then a lot of Blue Peter-style cutting and sticking takes place!”
The cup for first prize was presented to the shop’s Relief Manager Sally Anderson for their Nutcracker themed window. It’s the second time the Pier Street store’s windows have won the top accolade, although the previous first prize was during last Christmas when Jayne and her colleagues created a Grinch-themed display.
And Jayne admits that the shop is already looking forward to December’s festivities:
“We’ve already started planning for the Christmas event!”
