Islanders will go to the polls in May to have their say on who represents them at the Isle of Wight Council, town, parish and community council and police and crime commissioner elections
If you’re thinking about voting by post, you can apply to do this now ahead of polling day on 6th May 2021.
Claire Shand, electoral registration officer at the Isle of Wight Council, said:
“The elections will take place at a time when COVID-19 continues to present risks to public health. Depending on the infection rate, measures taken to control the spread of the virus may change as we approach May.
“We are working hard to ensure polling stations will be safe places to vote, but you can choose to apply to vote by post or by proxy instead. If you are thinking about applying for a postal vote, then please do so as early as possible.
“As preparations continue for the local elections, we remain in close contact with the Electoral Commission, the wider electoral community and public health authorities to ensure you can stay safe when casting your vote in May.”
To vote in the elections – either at a polling station, by post, or by appointing someone you trust to vote on your behalf as your proxy – you must first be registered to vote, which can be done online in just 5 minutes.
To then apply to vote by post you need to download, print and fill out a postal vote application form. Once you have completed the form and signed it, you need to send it to Electoral Services, County Hall, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 1UD.

The deadline to apply for a postal vote and cancel or make changes to a current postal or proxy vote at this election is 17:00 on 20th April 2021.

Please ensure you vote at the local elections to remove these destructive, expensive, parasites from there overly lucrative positions.

All free, no stamp needed, and Ideal IF like many, you don’t wish the hassle of voting, BUT still want to see the back of these leeches, who care nothing for us, or the Island, but only their ilk and wage, pension and expenses increasing each year which OUR council tax pays for, whilst we get ever more cut backs.

Its no more hassle than going to work, to the shops or to the pub! The polling station is just another building. You walk in, give your name, get a ballot paper, go to the booth, mark with an X, even the inbreds on here should be able to manage that, put ballot paper in box, leave. Probably 2 minutes tops. If you lot are so keen to get rid of the current crop of councillors, is 2 mins too much to ask. Silly question I know. Of course its too much to ask.

Please instead of just complaining, ensure you get a postal vote and use such to remove these dire greedy beings. They have had it too easy too long.
I know only too well how easy it is to do nothing as most of us aren’t interested in local politics, but we have never in all my years had such greedy and destructive beings in control
There relationship with developers is causing concern amongst many on here, and so, we ALL need to vote them out to break any unsuitable ‘links’ which may have formed.
Don’t expect others to do it, it only take a X on a sheet of paper, NO stamp needed.

Unfortunately under our system you cannot vote against, you can only vote for, so PLEASE can we see something from the alternative candidates? (No, not you, Mr Bacon).
We run a business in Ryde, and the joke, expect it is not funny, is, that one of the top councils ‘business leader’ is alleged to be one of the worst offenders in what you suggest.
We are with help gaining information from private sources, but of course some of those implicated naturally don’t wish to give evidence if it incriminates them in any way, or their friends.
However much information is being gathered from cash payments, furlough payments, pop up businesses, etc etc.
Whether enough to get this thing removed from office is, as yet, uncertain but some are trying their best.
For if private concerns are found to be suspect then what hope where our public money is concerned?
So it is wise to remove these beings at the next election as rarely so much smoke, without some sort of fire.
I will certainly vote for any party rather than these creeps.
They are destroying the beauty and much of the wildlife of this Island.
Even those people not ‘directly’ affected YET by the housing boom about to happen will have thousands more cars and delay at doctors, hospitals, dentists, schools, and road junctions.
Beauty spots and attractions along with beaches will become crowded, and many more undesirable people moving here will add to crime and anti social behaviour as decent employ will be impossible to find for the huge swathe of extra people.
Jobs will become ever more scarce and wages stagnate as ever more chasing fewer jobs will ensure than many will only pay the minimum that law dictates, all thanks directly to this self serving bunch.
Get the postal vote if it is too much fuss to go to vote, and place an x anywhere except for ‘these cretins’.
NO not “anywhere”! That risks dividing the opposing vote and thus letting the old guard back in. We all need to get behind one credible candidate, but where is he/she??
Monkey world could provide a better candidate. Less damaging to, and would work for peanuts, not thousands and still have us fund their pension and expenses. Yet charge us more each year, despite gaining more money from every house built here, THEN cutting back all the services.
I mean, of course, one credible candidate in each ward/constituency. That’s going to be tall order.
Hence the message is to vote these CURRENT councillors OUT.
I and likely most others KNOW that you HAVE to vote someone else ‘in’ to get these out.
I hear what you are saying about not diluting your vote by just choosing random candidates, which of course will mean the same old same old, get back in, BUT one can’t tell people ‘who’ to vote for, as that is their choice.
And to suggest anyone YET, without hearing what they offer, is jumping the gun a little.
So, at the moment, it is enough to say VOTE this lot out, by voting for anyone BUT, UNTIL we get more clarity on candidates nearer the time.
My point being, many people having now lost faith in politics, especially local elections, with a list of geeky faces, who few know or care about and trust their policies even less, so if unsure they then OUGHT to get a postal vote registration as the ‘die hard’ voters will always vote but many of us can’t be bothered if any fuss.
Then, instead of not ‘bothering’ to go and vote, if it is raining, the dogs thrown up, or something good on telly, they can then POST their vote in their own time, and thus ADD to the number of people sick of these parasites in power.
Their choice of WHO can be made nearer the time, just important to register now, IF you think you won’t bother voting in the usual way otherwise.
Just remember before we had this rabble the island was run by another crap shower
under the umbrella of independents. Unfortunately being an island it means we have a poor
choice of forward thinking people. Perhaps when we have any important decisions to be made
we should follow Switzerland and have a referendum on these decisions, which
means we can only blame ourselves not the deadwood in charge.
Ron, whilst a majority vote is fine, can’t see the whole system being changed here for decades.
So, we can only do, what we can do, with what is currently in place.
No council will ever please all. No council will get everything right. No council will likely ever be totally free from some form of corruption. They are human, and most accept life isn’t perfect.
But, when Islanders, who have for generations accepted that the Island was lower paid, had less amenities here, had less major stores, BUT also had less crime, less crowded roads, less traffic jams, less people, long but acceptable waiting times at doctors, hospital appointments, dentist and enjoyed a ‘slower’ but more pleasant way of life than many ‘over the water’ ‘they’ ACCEPTED that shortfall.
NOW this council will not only charge us more council tax, and give ever more cut backs to services, but to me, more importantly, TAKE away the ‘advantages’ of living here by giving permission to build too many houses, more than needed for Island people, so destroying our standard of life, not for a while, but forever more.
They need to go asap.
Sadly they are more dangerous than ‘deadwood’ more like ‘rotting wood’ and as such the rot spreads quickly, and has to be cut out to cure the problem.

We’re having a heated agreement. Absolutely with you on the importance of postal voting to reduce risk of being unable to vote in person for whatever reason.

The earlier we get sight and sound of potential candidates, the more time we have to see if they really are likely to be better than the current lot, and, more importantly, that we can agree on a prime opposition to overcome voting inertia and avoid vote-splitting.

Indeed, we must ensure that the current council holds no more sway of it’s destructive housing policies here.
What I want to get rid of is those that you cannot vote in or out, the desk jockeys in the back rooms. The so called managers. Those responsible for the non-floaty. Those responsible for the roads contracts etc. The ones that are paid stupid salaries plus plus. How do we get rid of them and / or make them accountable for their incompetence? Some one has mentioned Monkey World – yes, better brains there for certain.
And as for who you vote for as a councillor I have no idea at all. Suffice to say that we need people to represent us, the tax payer. Not someone who is only interested in themselves, any political party at all and not there to protect those in the offices pretending to do a ‘good’ (ha) job.
The really expensive ones will be taking early retirement soon so that they can grab the golden goodbye before the rules change later this year – I hope!
Remember where this Council has wasted our council tax money, Floating Disaster No 6 up at Cowes. Mass building to happen in Ryde, P Feath and just down the road another 400+ Vote wisely! I know I will….

You lot really make me laugh. You all know what you are against but you haven’t got a clue what, or more importantly, WHO, you are FOR! If any of you took the slightest interest in what is going on around you on the island, apart from whinging about all the things you perceive as being wrong, then you would know who the local politicians are and whether you might want to vote for them. Let’s be honest., it doesn’t matter who gets voted in or indeed out, you lot will still be moaning because that’s what people like you do. Moan, whinge, whine, complain! But NEVER anything constructive.
I quite agree caulkhead. If they really mean what they say they should get off their butt and stand for election themselves. God knows there’s enough of them to form a party.
