3 men from the Isle of Wight have been fined for breaching COVID restrictions after being caught by Police travelling through the New Forest to buy a second-hand car.
Officers conducted a routine stop of a vehicle late yesterday morning (Thursday) in the village of Ower, near Paultons Park.
Checks soon found that the 3 passengers – 2 men aged 22 and 23 from East Cowes and an 18-year-old from Wootton – were not engaging in essential travel. The trio were on the hunt to purchase a second-hand car and had travelled via Dorset.
The 3 Islanders have been reported for summons in relation to a fixed penalty notice for a breach of health protection regulations.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“Our officers will continue to engage, explain and encourage the public around the current health protection regulations. We will take enforcement action where blatant breaches of the legislation are observed.
“Stay at home unless your journey is essential.”

Ferry Checks !!!
Police want more money… why were these Covidiots not stopped when boarding ferry ? either this side or when getting off ?? Why did they get to travel all that way, via Dorset…. naturally because of lack of Police on this Island !!
The ferry companies won’t do nothing its Simple it’s about money and get the same old jibberish “it’s guidance and we can’t enforce it that’s down to the police bla bla bla” I’m sure the technology is there ANPR cameras names and addresses when booking stop checks but most public transport companies will use the bare minimum of what they can get away with. With the poor police already stretched to the limits its not on thier High priority list so it’s a loosing battle…
Poor police! what are they stretched doing, not solving crime, that’s for sure!
You clearly don’t know how ANPR works. Won’t give personal info like that as GDPR. Transport can’t stop people as there are reasons people can travel such as essential work and don’t have the authority to stop people.
It shouldn’t be up to companies to police it. That’s what police are for and tbh the only people to blame are the idiots breaking rules in the first place.
A lot of my fellow islanders seem to live in a fantasy land of just blame companies because I want to blame them.
Get over yourselves.
Move to the North Island why don’t you
Where are all the comments about people from the mainland bringing the Virus to the Island.
More like Dopey Locals going,to the mainland and bringing the Virus back with them!
I cant understand people how stewpid can they get dont they have no consideration for other folk.its all selfish ness.and saying about those ferries well is all they care about is money not any one health
I get what you’re saying even if it isn’t in any language i recognise.
if you can’t spell it you shouldn’t call someone it.
Pcw…that literally made me laugh out loud!
Did the fall from the lofty heights of the “Stupidity tree” hurt much? I do hope so!.
Is Stewpid Ness the one from Gavin and Stacey?
Or English is a second language?(what’s yours)? Or dyslexic and should be applauded for having the guts to write a reply? Another fabulous Isle of Wight trait “assuming” goes hand in hand with our now very large stupid tree which grows far to proudly “dead right and centre” and as the boughs break spawns the stupidity gene! Oh and it is a capital “I” if your being grammar prefect!.
Oh, and it is ‘you’re’ (‘you are‘) if you are being ‘grammar perfect’, Fedup.
I think Margaret Hadley must be a reflection of the isle of Wight’s education capabilities.
Probably one of the hundreds of mainlanders that have moved here
Were not all dopey and most island people do give a s___ some don’t I’m afraid
What most likely happened was, the Police stopped them, and they had a lot of cash on them from a drugs deal.
The ‘excuse’ was used they were going to buy a car prearranged by them as a cover.
Have the Police evidence they were on a ‘car’ buying mission or, are they not interested, so long as they fine them?
Check if they had cash, check where it came from, check out the destination of the car seller, etc?
Sounds too ‘odd’ to me.
Do any of these fines actually get paid?
Welcome to North Korea everyone.By by too all of your liberty’s and freedom,Democracy is now dead as Coronavirus 19 is here to stay forever. So get used to it.
So a virus has killed Democracy. What planet are you on?
We have to live with this virus and lockdown dont work, and only a small number in this country under the age of 82 has died in the last year approximately 400 people, why are we protecting the old when they have already had a good full life and the consequences of this is suicide is up depressions and anxiety is up,young people are dying from cancer and other illnesses because they are not being treated, people are losing there business aka livelihoods, the economy is crashing to rock bottom and it’s only going to get worse,we need to get back work and living and live with this virus because it’s never going away,if were going to have to live like this forever I hope it mutate’s into Virus X which is an mass extinction virus because we will all be better off dead. The last year has been hell for the whole planet. This is not living it’s exciting and it’s a living hell.
🙂
So only 400 (approximately) people under the age of 82 have died from Covid in the last year?
Would you like to site a source for that statistic, please?
Look up flu deaths on the Isle of Wight, the most recent figure was 2016/2017 winter when 122 people died from flu. Covid deaths this year on the island are around 150. There are no deaths attributed to flu this year. I agree people should stay home and we need to get rid of the virus but in terms of Deaths it’s not much different from a normal winter. These figures are available for all to read with the use of Google.
Awful bit of photo editing, with the superimposed Dell boy van shown with wrong orientation; hence the letters being in mirror mode.
