policenightPolice on the Isle of Wight are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a man was assaulted in the Ventnor at the weekend, leaving him with some serious injuries.

The 27-year-old male was punched once in the face before falling to the ground, which left him with a fractured skull and a bleed on his brain. The unnamed victim is being treated for his injuries at St Mary’s Hospital over a day since the attack, which happened at around 02:30 on Sunday morning (16th November) near to Tesco Express in the High Street.

Two Police cars and an ambulance responded to the incident.

A 23-year-old man was arrested in connection with the offence, however has since been bailed until Friday 19th December.

Detective Constable Gillian Harvey said:

“We’re looking for anyone who may have seen this incident or the people involved just prior or after it.

“Assaults like this luckily remain rare on the Island and we are keen to speak with anyone that had been out for the evening in Ventnor and saw what happened.”
