It’s unclear at this time if May’s local elections will go ahead, but in preparation for the eventuality, a new party has been launched – Vectis Party.
Former UKIP candidate Daryll Pitcher leads the way in a 10-minute Youtube launch video, alongside Graham Perks, Julian Harris and Barry Hailstone.
The party had hoped to host a formal launch in person, but the COVID restrictions have put paid to that idea.
Daryll Pitcher has said:
“As you will understand trying to do an official party launch during a national lockdown is not the easiest of things. What we have done is create a video which we hope replicates to some extent what would normally happen at a press conference.
“To add to our problems the full lockdown came into effect before all the videos had been gathered in and so some are unfortunately just audio files overlaid with photographs. Given the circumstances it was the best we could manage!
“It was always our aim to launch now, in the new year, as this seemed like the most appropriate moment”.

Oh dear!
Oh no, not yet another party acting in the all pervasive interests of the ferry companies
I am considering forming the”Stop Wight Fibre ruining our Pavements” party.
Any support for this?
All that work, noise and mess was months ago now, but what exactly is supposed to be happening for all the houses with these cables buried outside? Do we ever get a chance to connect? Will they then have to dig up the pavements again, plus our front drives and gardens? Do we pay for that to happen? Does anybody know?
Island Roads won’t want them stopped, they’re making a small fortune on the repairs.
Well done to Mr. Pitcher for having a go! God loves a trier, and in light of the latest restrictions of freedom The Vectis Party front man bemoaning problems, rather than presenting solutions, is just what we all need right now. Up your game, man, for the Island’s sake or the snakes at County Hall will run you in for daring to want things changed for the better.
