SingAbout Freshwater is celebrating its 5th birthday this week, with the group continuing to go from strength to strength.
The social singing activity, based at the Memorial Hall meets on a Monday morning from 10:15-12:15. The group has gone from strength to strength with more than 65 participants benefiting from the free sessions currently funded by the Age Friendly Island Big Lottery Fund Grant.
The group sings popular songs based around a weekly theme, that might be seasonal, weather based or just a selection of old favourites. It might include songs from musicals, traditional folk songs and rhymes, popular music and everything in between. Some weeks include fancy dress themes, and there are activities such as “Scottish Country Walking” to get participants up and moving.
Hannah Griffiths Project Manager for SingAbout said:
“The Freshwater group has been a trail blazer for the SingAbout Project, we are so pleased with how it has developed over the last 5 years.
“The group has become its own little community, everyone is included with family members and carers joining in with the sessions too. Everyone leaves with a smile on their face. It is a real testament to Jane – the groups Musical Practitioner and her amazing Volunteers that everything runs smoothly and people feel so welcome.
“Here’s to the next 5 years”
