RUBBISH LORRY INVOLVED IN COWES RTC

 

20140109-132412.jpgUPDATED: Emergency services, including the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue, are currently attending a collision in Cowes believed to involve a rubbish lorry.

The incident has occurred at the junction of Mill Hill Road and Victoria Road in Cowes.

Police, ambulance crews and two appliances from Newport Fire Station are in attendance, including the Rescue Tender unit, after being called to the scene shortly before 12:15.

UPDATE @ 13:20 – A white Dacia Duster 4×4 has been seriously damaged after colliding with an Island Waste rubbish collection lorry, it has been confirmed.

One male, the driver of the 4×4, was freed by firefighters just before 12:24 and was transferred into the care of paramedics and taken to St Mary’s Hospital.

The refuse lorry has been driven away from the scene with an escort after suffering minor damage to the offside front bumper and headlight. The Dacia is awaiting recovery.

Mill Hill Road remains open with traffic being diverted locally at the incident scene only.

One pumping appliances from Cowes Fire Station remains at the scene.

UPDATE @ 13:30 – The road has now re-opened fully.
