Shanklin Post Office at The Southern Co-operative in Regent Street has been completely refurbished. Instead of five full-screened Post Office counters, services are now provided from five modern counters. There are two open plan and two modern screened positions which are open Monday to Saturday 08:30-17:30 and Sunday 10:00-14:00.
Customers are the store will also now experience a Post Office serving point at the retail counter, offering selected services, which is open Monday to Saturday 07:00-0830 and 17:30-23:00 plus Sunday between 07:00-10:00 and 14:00-23:00. This is an extra 54 hours a week more than previously offered by opening significantly earlier and closing much later every day.
Cllr Jon Gilbey, said:
“This Post Office and store look really good. I am delighted to be here today to officially open this much-improved branch. The community will really benefit from the changes made, including Post Office opening hours almost doubling.”
Cllr Richard Priest, who also attended the event said:
“The branch looks light, bright, modern and airy. The open-plan counters make it far easier for staff and customers to have a conversation. Customers can now visit from early until late every day, which is very convenient. There have been lots of positive comments from local residents.”
The changes are part of a major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business, through longer opening hours and modern open plan environments.
Gary Trodd, Post Office Services Manager at The Southern Co-operative, said:
“The Southern Co-operative is very supportive of the changes as it’s seen as a positive move forward for customers by making the Post Office’s services more conveniently available whenever our store is open.”
