The open day at Bembridge Coastguard Station is being held to increase awareness of the vital life-saving work HM Coastguard carry out across the Island and throughout the country. All are invited to the event on Sunday 23rd November between 10:00 and 16:00 at Beachfield Road, Bembridge (opposite the Crab & Lobster pub).
Visitors can expect a full display of the Coastguard Rescue Team’s equipment and Coastguard Rescue Officers will be on hand to answer any questions you may have, in what is a rare opportunity to see first hand what the service does, to explore the station and to of course pose for photographs with the team’s emergency vehicles.
From rescuing those trapped on cliff edges to providing vital communications, coordinating searches and dealing with traumatic events, the Island’s Coastguard teams of Bembridge, Ventnor and The Needles, alongside Initial Response Teams in Ryde and Newport, provide 24/7 assistance to those in danger no matter what the weather or the time of day.
Some of the team’s latest shouts, as reported by Island Echo, can be found at http://www.islandecho.co.uk/?s=bembridge+coastguard.
