Former Isle of Wight journalist Michael Coombes has been named Radio Journalist of the Year at the EDF Energy London and the South of England Media Awards 2014.
Michael, who faced tough competition from the likes of Vanessa Feltz of BBC London 94.9, was praised by judges for his compelling story-telling and was described as an ‘infectious and enthusiastic broadcaster who clearly revels in bringing fresh, original stories to the air.’
Michael currently works at Wave 105, however has previously worked here on the Isle of Wight including a spell at Solent TV.
Following the prestigious award ceremony at Brighton’s Amex stadium, Michael said:
“It’s all rather exciting. I am absolutely thrilled to have been named Radio Journalist of the Year. It is a testament to the consistently high quality of reporting provided by Wave 105, as well as the hard work from all of our team, which provides the ideal environment to inspire good journalism!”
Now in its 10th year, the awards honour the best in journalism across London, Dorset, Hampshire, Berkshire, Surrey, East and West Sussex and Kent.
