Organisers last year invited amateur photographers to submit their photos which they had taken at the match. The subject of the photo’s could be tractors, horses or the general nature of the event.
The best 12 photos featuring horses and tractors were chosen to make up two calendars. One featuring the heavy horses which attended and the other tractors, from vintage to modern.
In the weeks leading up to Christmas, Memorial Match organisers sold the calendars at retailers across the Isle of Wight with funds raised going to the MS Society Isle of Wight Branch.
Karen Sheath, event organiser of the Calendar and Memorial Ploughing Match said:
“I was overwhelmed by both the support of the retailers, who so kindly agreed to stock the calendar, and by the amount we sold. The furthest afield was to Southern Ireland, and I know that some were sent to Australia for Christmas Presents.
“We were pleased to be able to support Island charities with the proceeds from the calendar going to the MS Society on the IW. The money raised from this years match in April, will go to local charities on the IW with the main beneficiary being the Earl Mountbatten Hospice.”
At the MS Society’s monthly meeting Karen handed over a cheque for £1028.00 from the profits of the calendar.
The calendar was kindly supported by Newport-based Crossprint.
Tim Sell, Managing Director, said:
“Crossprint are always very keen to support the local community, and we understand the values of aiding the MS Society.”
This years Memorial Ploughing Match will be on Sunday 12th April at New Wolverton Farm, Shorwell.
