A group of 13 teenagers have escaped being financially penalised after being caught having a Halloween party at an address in Gurnard on Saturday night.
Despite 92 fixed penalty notices being handed out across the region over the Halloween weekend, the group partying against the Rule of 6 were simply given ‘advice’ and told to move on.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Hampshire Constabulary attended 33 incidents where health regulations were being breached.
Concerned neighbours alerted Police to the party at Solent View Road at just before 19:30 on 31st October. Officers soon attended and spoke to a total of 13 teenagers.
The group were not issued any fines and were dispersed from the area.

Thought the new Goverments laws were in place for all.
Does this set a situation where anyone can use this event to escape the fines.
Absolute farce!
Come on IoW police give out the fines no if’s no but’s!
The parents have to control these ‘children ‘ & if proven fine parents who should control their off springs.
Ahh but on The Island that depends who the “parents are”? Probably the great and good from the Gurnard community with opinions that carry clout, had it bern a gathering in say Ryde or Newport.. Fines would have been handed out!
The authorities know that the elderly, the meek, the afraid of being told off by a Policeman etc, will be the ‘greater’ number, and the young and those who don’t care, will ignore weak laws, rules and fines.
They IF caught will have an excuse like, ‘ I was only there to collect a friend’ or to complain about the noise, or didn’t know so many would turn up, etc etc.
If fined the state will pay the fine anyway, as the state will pay for the Police time, the legal representation and the courts time. None of that cost will be met by children, nor their parents.
So, the young know these laws are just about keeping the timid ‘masses’ obeying such, which they will, whilst they do what they want to do.
Whilst many won’t wish to hear this, fact is just that, fact.
SEE how many people are fined and if so, who will end up paying such, for the young already have sussed the answer.
Two-tiered justice system. Some things never change.
Watch out for the illegal rave upcoming at the landslip near ventnor then !!!!
The laws rely on MOST people abiding by such. So those who don’t are allowed to get away with such, as so long as most abide the Government gets what it wants, numbers of infection spread risk, lower, NOT 100% stopped, as they KNOW that can and will never happen.
This is ALL about SLOWING the spread, NOT about ending it completely.
It is so hospitals can admit us when we catch it, and have a bed and equipment to try to save us.
So as long as the hospital intake is kept reasonable, then the few who break the law, don’t matter, it is ALL a ‘numbers’ game.
That is sending the wrong message
Telling the truth to ‘those’ who already know such, is not sending them the wrong message, BUT it is informing those older naive who ‘think’ increasing a fine, or having a man in a ‘uniform’ tell off the young will ‘stop’ them doing what they want and will do regardless.
The laws are made more for the latter group, the naive and older people, who then feel a little safer that the ‘Police’ or Government are clamping down, on such, when the young know that is not happening.
Clearly you don’t know many modern young people.
Why this insistence that the ‘old’ don’t know what is going on? Who the hell do you think brought up these kids in the first place? I have Grandkids who tell me a damn sight more about their lives than they do their parents AND they take more notice of me than they do their parents so TRY to follow joined up thinking a bit! Maybe you were just placed here to lecture the rest of us about ‘the ways of the Real world’ but most of us ‘elderly??’ have been there, got the T-shirt and the bruises AND know more than you seem to.
Q1: Why this insistence that the ‘old’ don’t know what is going on?
Ans: Because many say to ‘lock them up’ or ‘lock up the parents’ Christ, the courts barely ‘lock up’ the most vile criminals, so clearly those who ‘imagine’ children would be for such a crime, locked up, aren’t quite living in the modern world.
Q2: Who the hell do you think brought up these kids in the first place?
Ans: Clearly, whoever did, done a poor job, be it deaf eared parents, all listening Gramps, or, more likely for many the internet via their phone and mates of similar ilk.
I am wise enough to know that children know their rights more than at any time previously and most ‘use’ such to the max, whilst many older still think that the young are afraid of the Police, Teachers and authority when they know, they now have little reason to be so.
I suggested and stick with that, that the older generation are the ones who will abide by the rules far far more, because they still fear and respect authority whereas the young for the main, do not.
But to think that a large fine will change the attitude of the young, when the young know it will never happen, makes the young more ‘wise’ than the elders in this situation.
You may be different as I never said, ‘all’ but many. Every exception has a huge amount who are not, to any ‘rule’.
Telling the truth to ‘those’ who already know such, is not sending them the wrong message, BUT it is informing those older naive who ‘think’ increasing a fine, or having a man in a ‘uniform’ tell off the young will shock or ‘stop’ them doing what they want as they will do so regardless.
So Mr Arnold you don’t understand that many of the young are fully aware of how the law is weak, and unworkable.
It is often the older members of society, who when young froze with fear at the thought of a Police officer telling them off, who are the ones who still ‘think’ that fines, and a ‘stern talking too by a man dressed in a uniform, are effective against the young, as it makes them sleep easier, ‘thinking’ something is being done about the ‘outrageous behaviour of the young’.
This is the problem kids flouting the law should be punished for this outrageous behaviour or fine parents if they can’t pay lock um up see what happens to there kids then
Before you go around saying things like this, learn the facts.
Biggest deterrent which should be imposed is to take away their mobiles as they cant exist without them. One month for first offence, six months for second offence.
I suppose the teenagers reply to the police was probably ‘what ever’. But where were the parents?
Probably related to the police
I reckon some strings were pulled here. This needs looking into.
That is a ridiculous comment
Looks like I’ve touched a nerve. What could the reason be for that l wonder.
That just makes a sham of the whole rules and regulations.
Might as well have just let them carry on partying then.
You all need to remember, these kids, at this particular Halloween party, (and there were many across the Island that night) all go to the same school. They sit in the same classes, sit at the same tables, eat lunch together and share the same air space all day everyday. Spending some quality down time together, changes nothing but the location in which they do it.
They were in a safe space together, they weren’t invading anybody else’s air space that could cause harm. Shame on the neighbours, were they never young, they should of asked the question to the kids first b4 involving and wasting Police time.
thank you, finally someone who has common sense.

We’re there connections to someone in Authority in some way ?
Even a £30 fine each would be sending the right message.

funny how the kids see each other everyday at school with 150 others and people are sending death threats through the internet, GROW UP! and shut schools if one of them had it they would have all got it and so would the 150 others at school.
the same night there where gatherings of 50+ in freshwater and ryde and a young boy was stabbed yet this story is all over the county press. yet again grow up you keyboard warriors!! yes there in the wrong but death threats not needed pls thankyou
So if the ones who had the fixed penalty notice – had the same or less people in attendance will they then not have to pay ? The teenagers will be telling all their friends and saying no problems- just break the law .
it’s not a law it’s a guideline luv they can’t enforce a law for a virus that has only killed a very small amount of people
It’s a Funny old game
What the hell is wrong with the police in this instance. These kids broke the UK law and should have been fined for doing so. Unbelievable. These kids know what is going on and they shouldn’t have done what they did so they should have received some sort of punishment.
Had they done this 2 weeks ago they wouldn’t have broken the law so your point is??
They could pass a law meaning no one is allowed outside ever.
I wouldn’t mind that one because I’m a hermit anyway
Lockdown, in your opinion this means ‘do as you like’ ……. What a piss take
LOL
I see you’re all complaining about people living their life and not adhering to b****hit ‘laws’ I wonder how many of them would test positive, probably not alot, and even if they did a 99.9% survival rate wouldn’t deter anyone! Anyone who has brains anyway. Open your eyes, alot of you need to be ‘woke’
I take it you are not the real BJ as you are someone talking common sense something he is incapable of doing and just lies 24/7
I’m the Boris who’s not a puppet on a string
yep – old people making rules for old people and expect the young to have to follow such pointless rules also.
they should have told the interfering do gooder to clear off, who grassed up the kids for having a bit of fun.
Island echo need to get their story straight. These kids go to the same school in the same town and they were simply trying to have fun out of school. They breathe the same air all day everyday and if there’s a problem with that, then the schools shouldn’t be open anyway. Whoever is sending DEATH THREATS to young kids needs to get off the internet and seek serious help. I’m disgusted seeing some of these comments, and the people saying these things wonder why half the kids sit in their rooms on their phones. BECAUSE OF YOU!!
