NHS staff on the Isle of Wight are taking part in a national strike over pay this morning (Monday).
Staff from a variety of different departments will remain on strike until 11:00, however disruption to the normal running of services is being kept to a minimum with no appointments or operations having to be cancelled.
Alan Sheward, Executive Director of Nursing and Workforce at Isle of Wight NHS Trust said last night:
“The industrial action in the public sector, which is scheduled for week commencing 13th October, is about national pay arrangements for NHS staff.
“Here on the Island we work closely with staff and their representatives. Both the Trust and staff representatives want to minimise the impact any industrial action has on the quality of care for patients. We do not anticipate the need to cancel any appointments or operations at this time.
“Arrangements are being put in place to ensure that essential services are maintained across the organisation”.
A spokesperson for NHS Isle of Wight has this morning confirmed the Trust’s position remains the same.
