Every year members of the Newchurch Male Voice Choir select a charity to give their support to and for 2016 the choir have decided to support the The Martin Poynter Trust.
Profits made on various concerts throughout 2016 will be donated to the Trust, which has been set up following the sad passing of much-loved and respected firefighter Martin Poynter almost a year ago.
The work of the Trust in promoting the prompt action needed if a stroke occurs, the ongoing research into causes and treatment of strokes, and the after care of victims – in conjunction with The Stroke Association – is a matter close to the choir member’s hearts.
Bob Cooper, the Choir’s Publicity Officer said:
“Many of us knew Martin before he was taken from us by a stroke. He was a man who, through his work in the community with the Fire Service and with West Wight Swimming Club, gave inspiration and reassurance to many children and families.
“The Choir wants to show our gratitude for his work and that being undertaken in his name.
“We trust that our concerts this year will help to raise much needed money for the Trust, through our audiences being happy and giving generously in the departing collections”.
Claire Poynter, for the Trust, said:
“To get the support of the Newchurch Male Voice Choir is such a fillip to our cause. We look forward to their concert’s and their help in spreading the word about Stroke’s and their prevention”
The choir’s concert dates will be published through Island Echo and at https://www.newchurchmvc.co.uk/.
