Over 300 people took part in a lantern trail through Newchurch on Thursday which allowed local people of all ages to learn about and explore the nocturnal wildlife that lives in and around Martin’s Wood.
Large illuminated installations and lanterns were made depicting the local wildlife. Community groups taking part included Newchurch and Arreton schools, Newchurch Art Club, Newchurch scouting association and the friends of Newchurch School (FONS). There were also open community workshops.
Newchurch Lantern Trail was the first of the HLF funded Down to the Coast projects being delivered by the Isle of Wight Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) team as part of the East Wight Landscape partnership.
Frankie Goldspink, Learning and participation Manager for the NCC said: “It was a wonderful, magical and very much a family occasion”.
