A pioneering college for 16-19 year old military hopefuls which has a branch in Isle of Wight has been shortlisted for “Training Provider of the Year” in the TES Further Education Awards 2015.
The Military Preparation College (MPCT), which has 16 bases across the UK including on Playstreet Lane in Ryde, has been chosen as one of six finalists for the prestigious award from over 100 colleges and training providers. Earlier this year, MPCT was rated Grade 1 Outstanding in every area by Ofsted.
MPCT is run by ex-military instructors, and helps young men and women develop their physical fitness, functional skills and self-confidence. Free to attend, the college operates a ‘roll on, roll off’ joining process, allowing students to join at any time during the year.
For those interested in pursuing military careers, MPCT gives them the best possible chance to pass selection for the Armed Forces, and complete basic training. For others, the College instils all the core values and life skills needed to set young people up to reach their full potential in whatever further education, training or employment route they choose.
The TES FE Awards celebrate and reward the dedication and expertise of the people and teams who continue to make a significant contribution to improving the skill levels of young people and adult learners.
Huw Lewis MBE, founder and managing director of MPCT, comments:
“We are thrilled and honoured to be nominated for this award – which is the most prestigious in the further education calendar. All our staff are fantastically committed to our young people, resulting in exceptionally high motivation and progression levels amongst our learners, many of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds initially.”
The winners will be revealed at a glittering ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London, on Friday 27th February 2015.
