There has been an unexpected fall in the number of people claiming the benefit Jobseekers Allowance, albeit a small decrease of 30 claimants.
During September a total of 1,472 people across the Isle of Wight were claiming JSA, down from 1,502 in August. The news comes as the Summer season ends, which normally results in more Islanders becoming unemployed.
Year-on-year, there were 1,215 less people claiming JSA than in September 2013.
The latest figures mean that 1.8% of the Island’s 16-64 population are claiming JSA – 0.4% less than the rest of the UK.
