The Be Your Best Rock Challenge and J Rock events aim to inspire, engage and motivate young people to make healthy and positive lifestyle choices and from Monday 22nd February the O2 Guildhall in Southampton will be taken over for a week by more than 1000 students – including several schools from the Isle of Wight – as they rise to the challenge for another year.
The Rock Challenge and J Rock are excellent opportunities for young people to perform live on a professional stage whilst encouraging an adrenalin-based high that can be experienced through performing rather than using tobacco, alcohol or other drugs.
Teams as small as 10, or as large as 135 students, will have up to 8 minutes to perform their chosen theme to an audience of family, friends, VIPs, sponsors and a panel of industry professionals. Every aspect of the performance will have been devised, designed and created by the students and we will see a variety of themes from the tackling of current social issues to the retelling of real-life events or fictional pieces.
Haylands Primary School and Lanesend Primary School will travel to Southampton on Thursday 25th February to compete in J Rock, whilst Newchurch Primary School and Gurnard Primary School will perform the following day on Friday 26th. It will be the first time Gurnard Primary have entered the competition.
Senior Event Manager, Samantha Eastwood, is looking forward to seeing what the schools will produce in this year’s Rock Challenge:
“Every year we are amazed by the amount of time and effort that schools put into creating their Rock Challenge and J Rock performances. Schools learn the importance of team work and perseverance as their many hours or hard work pay off in spectacular performances. This experience is the highlight of so many young people’s school careers and creates lasting memories for years to come.”
