Ryde based businesswoman Dee Becker is taking on the 2016 Isle of Wight Ultimate Challenge – a 106km walk around the stunning coast of the Isle of Wight – all in one go on the 30th April and 1st May.
With a target of raising the grand total of £6,000 over the next 4 months, Dee is passionate about raising awareness and much-needed funds for three inspiring charities who provide help and support to women affected by the personally devastating side-effects of cancer treatment; the Island’s Earl Mountbatten Hospice, Look Good Feel Better and mynewhair by Salons that Care.
Entering into her 60th year and determined to get fit and ‘give something back’, Dee wanted to embark on a challenge that would be both personally demanding and rewarding at the same time.
Dee comments:
“Everyone has been touched in some way by cancer, which in itself can be daunting and life-changing. Women in particular have the added stress of the appearance related side effects of cancer treatment.”
Dee’s business focuses on presentation and communication and this includes helping people increase their self-esteem and confidence through improving their self-image and appearance.
Dee adds:
“We have a choice on how we look and feel – cancer patients don’t. Helping raise the profile of the fantastic support and services that are available on the Island for these women has motivated me to complete this challenge.”
And as a final show of commitment to this admirable fundraising challenge, Dee has committed to having her head shaved 4 weeks before the walk; to show her solidarity to those women who experience medical hair loss and to demonstrate that you can still look and feel great whether you choose to wear a personally styled wig or not.
