Islanders are being invited to give their views on how the Isle of Wight Council should spend its money next year.
The authority has launched its budget consultation — and residents, businesses, the voluntary sector and town and parish councils are being encouraged to have their say on spending and service priorities for 2021/22.
The council expects to spend around £340million in the next financial year on areas including schools, social care, refuse collection, street cleaning, planning, regeneration and road maintenance.
Council leader, Dave Stewart said:
“We’ve managed our budget very robustly over the past few years, and are determined to deliver a robust, workable and forward-looking budget again next year.
“Frontline services have been maintained and improved, with improved efficiencies in many areas.
“Obviously, this year, we have a different challenge with the coronavirus pandemic that remains ongoing, so we have to plan this into our budget analysis for next year too.
“The views of individuals and representatives from all sectors across the Island is hugely valuable to the shaping of our spending and service priorities for the year ahead.
“We welcome views from all contributors as we develop an innovative and workable budget — and one which will allow us to continue to provide sustainable services in the future, within a stable financial environment and help us to keep the Island safe.”

They will do what ‘they’ want anyway. ONLY if others suggestions coincide with theirs will they be taken into account.

Not on your rises.greedy lazy useless and stupid money wasting people you.

“How should the Council spend Taxpayers money”? Sensibly would be my suggestion.
Try finding ways to SAVE money, not finding more ways to Spend it. Just because it keeps them in a job finding creative ways to waste cash, now, the council can’t even be bothered to think how, they want US to tell them how to waste OUR money.
Like Turkey’s voting for Christmas.
Vote these cretins OUT, would be the best money saver EVER
The survey is a joke and boils down to variations of the same loaded question, do you think we should raise charges and tax to pay for services or do you think we should cut services (whilst still raising the tax and charges but not by as much) – they will use it to legitimise their revenue raising schemes and also their cuts and claim ‘it’s what islanders wanted’ – no mention of cutting the vast amounts being poured into council pension funds, the trimming of staff budgets, the financial calamity caused by the bureaucrat led floating bridge, fiasco, the cost of ‘regeneration’ that has regenerated precisely nothing in 2 decades, the cost of countless eco and green initiatives which give no direct benefit to a rural island with a disseminated population and so on and so on
These cretins have now removed the last remaining steps at whale chine, for ‘our safety’ making it more dangerous than ever.
I have heard it is to then ‘give’ a sweetener when permission is granted for the building nearby there, they will ‘insist’ the builder then provides access to the beach. Thus limiting the anger by locals not wanting that area ruined, but glad to have access to the beach ‘restored’
These people are sly, vote them OUT.
