Tina May will be hosting the workshops between 9th and 12th February at Sandown Bay Academy and Cowes Enterprise College.
The workshops have been organised by the Isle of Wight Music Education Hub, which the Isle of Wight Council and schools are key partners in. They are aimed at Key Stage 2 children who will learn a variety of jazz-related songs and singing techniques, each accompanied by jazz musicians.
There will also be two concerts for parents and children to attend. The first is being held at Sandown Bay Academy between 18:00 and 20:00 on Tuesday 10th February and at Cowes Enterprise College on Thursday 12th February, also between 18:00 and 20:00. The cost is £4 per adult and £2 per child and tickets are available on the door.
Isle of Wight Council leader and Executive member for children’s services, councillor Jonathan Bacon said:
“Tina is a highly respected and influential figure in jazz music and I am sure the children attending the workshop will learn a lot of skills and techniques.
“This is a great example of the work the Isle of Wight Music Education Hub is carrying out to improve the musical abilities of children on the Island.”
