jobcentresignSome 131 more Islanders were out of work during October compared to September, according to unemployment figures released today (Wednesday).

On the Isle of Wight, a total of 1,603 people were claiming the benefit Jobseekers Allowance during October compared to the 1,472 in September. Despite the rise, which was expected as the summer season ended, there are a staggering 1,178 less residents claiming JSA compared to a year ago.

The number of unemployed is expected to rise again during November when figures are released next month.
