Environment Agency officers have been working with Island Roads to teach operatives how to safely and successfully erect flood barriers.
A COVID-safe training exercise took place on the Isle of Wight on Wednesday to demonstrate the several stages involved in manoeuvring and erecting the barriers.
The Environment Agency say they have drawn up plans with the Isle of Wight Council to protect local residents and businesses in East Cowes from tidal flooding ahead of this winter.
In 2017, the EA deployed barriers at Yarmouth and mobilised their Incident Command Unit when Storm Brian battered the Island.

Let’s hope they do that better than they do the Roads
