Police are continuing to investigate a suspected arson attack on a charity shop in Newport.
As previously reported by Island Echo, the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were mobilised to Riverway Industrial Estate during the early hours of 19th November following reports of a fire within a commercial building.
It was quickly determined that the fire had been set deliberately and Police started a hunt for a man seen running away from the scene. To date, no arrests have been made.
Specialist fire investigation dogs from the mainland were brought in to help investigate the act of arson. It’s thought an accelerant was placed through the front of the building before being set alight.
Many Islanders have raised questions as to whether the attack has any connection to the recent instances of poison being left for dogs at Parkhurst Forest.
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help support Friends of the Animals, with £650 raised so far. You can view the fundraiser at https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-friends-of-the-animals.
Anyone with information relating to the fire is asked to contact the police on 101, quoting 44200447554.

Its beyond belief that someone would deliberately set fire to an animal charity that helps so many people and animals in need. I sincerely hope that this person is caught and not even the maximum sentence would be enough punishment in my mind. Vile scumbag is putting it lightly.
Where next is my concern, for IF the same as the Parkhurst animal hater then, likely to chose another easy target, knowing that cameras will be set up at old haunts.
Shame the person is not caught by a tough animal lover first.
So when they catch this evil moron just cover them in Pedigree Chum and invite a few hungry hounds round for a tasty lunch. Dogs retribution.
This piece of sh*t needs to be ‘sorted out’ ……… before the police get their hands on him
