Wight Tri members Natalie Lawrence and Jonny Woodhouse travelled a little further afield at the weekend to compete in one of the first running races after lockdown.

The duo posted brilliant performances at the Kew Gardens 10km race – both gaining new personal best times at a well-organised event that aptly followed all COVID-19 guidelines.

The course was a single lap through the scenic gardens which was flat but with several sharp bends. After a fast start, Jonny pushed hard to beat his previous 10km record by 12 seconds to cross the line in 39.58, just scraping within his 40-minute target.

Starting a few seconds later Natalie began conservatively but ramped up her pace to complete the course in 38.06 – a whopping 1 minute 30 seconds faster than her previous fastest time. Natalie was also 4th female overall and 1st in the 19-24 category.

Both athletes have been targeting strength and speed work and their efforts have been rewarded.

Wight Tri members are now looking forward to the final event of their season, the Wight Tri Triathlon Championships, which will take place this coming weekend.
