The Wight Aviation Museum (WAM) – located at Sandown Airport – suffered serious damage from Storm Eunice on Friday, leaving a gaping hole in its roof.
Total disaster was averted by the prompt action of 2 of the WAM team, who managed to protect the most exposed exhibits that day.
On Monday, a team of volunteers worked quickly to secure other exhibits and lower the P51 Mustang model and store it safely.
WAM Chairperson Helen Blake has said:
“It’s times like these that our volunteer team work well together to save all the effort that has been put in to establishing the new and exciting Wight Aviation Museum over the last three years!”
The Wight Aviation Museum now hope the roof can be repaired quickly in time for a grand opening for the public in early April.
The museum plans a crowdfunding campaign for the restoration of the damaged exhibits, which will be publicised soon on the WAM website and on social media.

I agree! Claim on the insurance instead of begging from the public.
The public simply haven’t got spare money
It’s not mandatory, you can just not donate simple.
You say people just haven’t got the money to spare,but they will still give stupid amount of Money to Not Very Comical Relief.
I’m going to donate and I live 140 miles away. It’s a great little aviation museum and well worth supporting.
