As the number of cases of coronavirus start to rise and rumours of a second national lockdown develop, Morrisons have decided to re-introduce strict coronavirus measures at their stores in Lake and Newport.
At the height of the pandemic, the national supermarket enforced a number of restrictions on shoppers including a queuing system and restricted numbers.
Now, as things take a turn for the worse, Morrisons is re-introducing ‘front of store hosts’ to monitor customer numbers, a queuing arch at the Nutmeg clothing aisle and marshalls to help direct customers to checkouts.
Shoppers are reminded that face coverings are still required, unless exempt.
The changes are coming into force today (Saturday) for the foreseeable future.
Other supermarkets across the Isle of Wight are continuing as normal.
What a HUGE coincidence that numbers ONLY have risen since the end of the holiday season. One wonders if testing or number were kept as quite as possible to keep the UK’s holiday trade going, as to have given such numbers then, would have caused many to stay home.
If so, it is disgusting that people were ‘bribed’ by HMG and thick enough to ‘eat out because it was cheap’ thus risking others by saving a tenner.
Cant see any queuing on wet, cold, dark Winter pavements or car parks for trade except for the real essentials, and many businesses will fold by next Spring.
With more houses and less jobs, the perfect storm for many I fear.

Many old and frail won’t wish to queue in the wet, cold conditions of Winter. Trade will plummet for all but essential items this Winter. The bribe to eat out will now come at a huge price as will the tourist trade. Time to pay the reaper.
If their that frail then maybe they shouldn’t be out in the winter months. There is a pandemic on after all. Age concern volunteers help with things like this if there’s no family around. I pick shopping up for an elderly neighbour. I don’t go into her house but drop things off on the doorstep and put my mask on.

As a person with mobility problems I certainly do not mind queuing as long as I can sit down – please provide one or two seats!

You are right. But people are waking up. Look on youtube at the BBC, ITV news etc. The dislikes are vastly outnumbering the likes. As are the comments. The majority know this is all rubbish.
Remember guys this virus is very picky on who and how it targets. More than 6 of you, then good luck surviving, less than 6 you are perfectly safe. It only comes out after 10pm from next week, so before that time we should all be fine. If you do go out after 10pm, I can only imagine the horror of tripping over dead bodies left right and centre. It you protest against it, you are not safe but if you want to do a BLM protest the virus is very sympathetic to your cause and will leave you alone. Police officers are also immune.

I say if you don’t wear a mask then you don’t enter, and if you can’t wear a mask for medical reasons then what you doing out you must be vulnerable.

I still cannot understand why shop assistants have no masks on.After hospitals they must be one of the most vunerable groups to catch the virus The only staff i have seen wearing a mask was a shop assistant in Waitrose and Morrison’s staff.

Covid is still around. All businesses should observe social distancing or be closed down. You see these rules being flouted everywhere. It’ll end up with total lockdown again. I can’t wait!

I was in the shop today and most of the staff ain’t wearing masks including the one that was 2 feet away from me filling the shelves , and they are still letting people shop without masks !!!
