The Southern Vectis Route 39 bus through Newport’s Barton, Fairlee and Pan areas – a service popular with older residents – has been saved for the next 5 years thanks to Newport Parish Council.
The service, which provides a link to Newport Town Centre, had over the past 5 years been funded through developer contributions related to the B&Q store, but that money has now run out.
However, thanks to a £5000 per annum contribution from Newport Parish Council, initiated by Cllr Matthew Price (Newport North) and a further £13,000 per annum contribution from the Pan Meadows developer community contributions, initiated by Cllr Geoff Lumley (Newport East), the service has now been secured for a further 5 years.
The route, which operates 5 journeys during the day between Monday to Friday, will be changed to exclude B&Q as a stop.
