32-year-old Lauren McIntyre, a prison officer at HMP Isle of Wight, has appeared in court accused of having a sexual relationship with a male prisoner – a convicted double murderer.
Miss McIntyre, of St John’s Wood Road in Ryde, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court last Tuesday accused of 1 count of being a holder of a public office and wilfully neglecting to perform her duty/wilfully misconducted herself.
According to official court documents, the alleged offence is said to have occurred between August 2018 and December 2018.
It’s said that Lauren, a prison officer at Albany, misconducted herself in a way which amounted to an abuse of the public’s trust. It’s alleged she had a sexual relationship with a serving prisoner, Andrew Roberts, as well as failing to report her knowledge that he was in possession of a mobile phone and provided him with her personal mobile phone number. Furthermore, she communicated with the child killer via mobile phone and even supplied him with a copy of her photograph.
The case against Miss McIntyre goes further in saying that she attempted to facilitate the transfer of money from the prisoner into her bank account. It is also alleged that she sanctioned the beating, by Roberts, of fellow Prison Officer Samuel Laidler.
There is further accusations relating to the beating of PO Laidler, in that Lauren McIntyre provided Roberts with Laidler’s personal mobile number and that she took no steps to warn the Prison Officer or the prison authorities of the impending beating.
The 32-year-old is also accused of passing information to Andrew Roberts that she had given to the prison authorities about the alleged misconduct of other members of staff, as well as withholding information from the prison authorities regarding potentially corrupt officers.
The charge against Lauren McIntyre is so serious that it can only be dealt with by the Crown Court. She will appear before the Isle of Wight Crown Court in October.
Lock her up.
Madness. I can only assume she knew this person before they went inside? Why else would you throw everything away for someone banged up. Maybe they need to rotate the staff more often to stop personal relationships from forming. A very hard job and shes just tarnished the reputation of the ones who do a good job.
Well, what a stupid woman. If justice is served she should do a nice long stretch inside – nothing better than an ex screw mixing with and being exposed to her fellow prisoners. Should be well uncomfortable for her, no less than she deserves.
You start to see how many drugs etc get into prison through the staff.
God knows what else goes on like this. No small wonder that people don’t worry about doing crime, with drugs, s ex and violence, it must be just like being back home for these inner city types.
Hope she ends up on the other side of bars soon.
Corrupt officers? I hope it all comes out. The tip of the iceberg. Disgusting. Violate so many trust.
While I would never condone such repulsive and unforgivable behaviour, it must be remembered that this charge is purely a number of accusations and allegations at the moment.
The Presumption of Innocence (innocent until proven guilty) is the cornerstone of our judicial system, and therefore unless and until she is found guilty of these charges, it would be appropriate to hold fire with any condemnation.
How many times is this happening.!! No women should be warders in Male jails .what a nasty individual. Hope she gets a few years .
