The event, which was held on Saturday, has been hailed a success with a massive £3061.22 raised from ticket sales and donations, as well as from raffle tickets sold on the night.
The sell-out evening was organised by firefighter Mark Grimes and his wife Kathryn, who are this year promoting The Brain Tumour Charity and raising funds along the way following Mark’s life-changing diagnoses and treatment of a rare form of cancer, as previously reported by Island Echo. Funds are also being raised for The Firefighter’s Charity which supports serving and retired firefighters, fire personnel and their families.
In June nearly £900 was raised during a car wash fundraiser and over £400 was raised at a Summer Garden Party in August. On Sunday even more money was collected during a road and trail race (RAT race) from Nettlestone Primary School, adding to the Brain Tumour Charity pot. Donations have also been flooding in on the website Just Giving.
Next in the series of fundraising events is The Great South Run on Sunday 25th October when Mark and Kathryn will run together as part of their continued ‘Wight Brainy Bunch’ fundraising efforts. On 14th November a music concern will be held at St Saviour’s, Shanklin – more details on this to follow.
