Morrisons in Newport and Lake have imposed restrictions on the number of items shoppers can now buy due to the start of another wave of panic buying.
Earlier this year, in the days and weeks leading up to the national lockdown, the shelves of shops across the Island were stripped bear by locals stocking up on daily essentials.
Now, with the coronavirus pandemic going south, supermarkets are seeing yet another wave of bulk purchases.
From today, the following items have a purchase cap on them:
- Soap (bar) – 3
- Hand Sanitisers – 3
- Hand wash – 3
- Calpol – 2
- World Foods (Rice) – 3
- World Foods (Flour) – 3
- World Foods (Oil) – 3
- Toilet Paper – 3
- Anti Bacterial Cleaning – 3
- Bathroom Cleaning – 3
- Specialist Cleaning – 3
- Floor Cleaning – 3
- Glass & Window Cleaning – 3
- Kitchen Cleaning – 3
- Multi-purpose Cleaning – 3
- Bleach – 3
- Disinfectant – 3
- Drains Disinfectant – 3
- Toilet Care Bleach & Disinfectant – 3
- Kitchen Roll – 3
Morrisons say they appreciate your understanding at this difficult time.

How stupid are these people! I blame the media for showing people panic buying and it just spirals out of control! There is more than enough for people to shop normally and we wont run out! What is it all about panik buying toilet rolls what ever next!
Just really stupid people im afraid!
Agree with you stupid people.
Did a shop yesterday, home bargains, Iceland, Morrison’s (before you all ask I usually do several shops as I only shop once a month!), I didn’t want any toilet rolls, but after all the news about further restrictions, I made a point of looking .. no toilets rolls in these shops and that was about 11 am.
The shops were rammed with folk, unusual for a Tuesday too.
That’s the problem – last time the “stupid people” were the ones with the toilet rolls and flour and those who behaved sensibly were the ones who got nothing but a sense of satisfaction.
Not tempted myself (so far) but you can see why people might make poor choices because they do not want to get caught out again this time.
Yes you’re right Mark people make poor choices because they don’t want to get caught out and I expect there are vulnerable people who will double or triple up so as to lessen the time they have to go to the shops… it’s a vicious circle but hopefully if everyone shops wisely then the panic buying will stop. The supermarkets have said there is plenty of goods in the supply chain so let’s hope looking forward everyone is catered for.
There’s a load of selfish and downright stupid people out there yet again! There is NO shortage of anything.
There WILL be when these people have finished, here we go again, I’m alright and the rest can suffer attitude will again cause shortages!
Well done Morrison’s. Let’s hope other shops and supermarkets follow. No need for it as suppliers have stated they have no problems.
What is wrong with these greedy idiots.
This pandemic has certainly shown how selfish and self-centred people can be,there’s enough for everyone if you just shop sensibly.
nope mandy – people want to make sure they are alright first.
law of nature applies – survival of the fittest.
Survival of the thickest.
you go without then tony – your morals won’t put food in your stomach or provide you with toilet paper will it.
No doubt the toilet roll is required for all those kebabs that need consuming before 10pm now. Then live on rice and pasta for three months until the lockdown eases…….wait….what lockdown? There isn’t one!!!!!!! Price of coffee and sugar going up…buybuybuy buybuybuy..must must must. Baaabaaaabaaaabaaaa.
I’ve never seen a bear in. Morrisons – I think you mean bare!
Well done Morrison’s , hope the staff don’t get abused by selfish morons , but they probably will ! Having spent 40+ years in retail I know what SOME of the public can be like , a***holes !!!
Just done an online shop and Tesco’s are restricting the amount you buy aswell just to let you all know.
Wouldn’t need to restrict anything if people weren’t so downright idiotic and stupid.
Agree IOWter, these morons are creating a shortage by ‘hoarding’ certain products. Stop panicing, there WILL BE PLENTY TO GO AROUND if everyone buys normally.
Good. Tesco here on the island were too slow to put restrictions on certain items earlier in the year. Still think 3 packs of toilet rolls is too much. 1 or 2 packs is appropriate don’t you think??
What idiots, Im guessing these are the same people that refuse to stick to the rules and wear a mask.
Remember last time when all the excess food was thrown away.
Greedy and stupid people. The supermarkets should limit them to only 1.Why maximum of 3?
In theory that means people could buy 3 x packs of 9 rolls. Even a large family wont get through 27 rolls of toilet paper in a week, will they. A limit of one packet will ensure there is enough for everyone. These greedy people really get under my skin.
Absolutely! Why buy 3 packs of 24 toilet rolls? Greedy, selfish b**tards! Unless they have a problem? A BIG problem!!!!!!
i will go round several different shops and stock up on everything i can – then repeat the process the next day and so on, until I am sure I won’t run out of anything.
It’s people like you that makes the shops run out you selfish prat. Or you’re just winding everyone up.
I do like a small glass of brandy just before going to bed. Maybe I’d better get three or four cases in, just to make sure I’ve got enough for the next five years, assuming I last that long. I could wrap them in all those toilet rolls for protection. 😉
Tongue in cheek, of course, I couldn’t possibly afford four cases.
Brilliant ! Lovely to see a wicked sense of humour! Cheers me dear
Hopefully will stop the gready pigs from taking from others!
It won’t they are thick!
Ha ha ha
You people are stupid !
Getting brainwashed by this government
Have a strong word with yourselves;)
Oh man, I was going to clean my mansion windows this week!
Hope they dont sell out of sausages.
NO NO NO. Why are people starting this again, there is no need to panic buy. All these idiots are doing is creating a shortage of particular items themselves. Stop it for heaven’s sake. Don’t be so selfish.
Its so ironic! These morons need to ask themselves a question! Was there a shortage of toilet rolls, anti bacterial wipes, flour ,soap, bleach, last week or the week before when they went shopping? No of course there wasnt ! But because of their greed and stupidity on panic buying , they themselves have created this situation! What pathetic individuals they are! Absolute twats.
Get a grip peeps.you selfish lot of twats.
This covid is here too stay so deal.act rational .it needs too take its course ,be vigilant or risk it .i mean some slack person takes ut into old peooles homes. Or hospital!stop closing down the country of every normal n needed things .thousands are dying of cancer, other illness because this covid …which keeps gets top attention against other many deaths and gov obsesses over. leave crap rolls alone stupid selfish shoppers cos im bored and fed up at hearing it now.
Im disabled and cant go out so . .wot face my tesco deliv being short if import items?
Lets hope you all get squits so youll at least use them up right
wishing ill health on others lev, is a sign of a bitter and twisted person. You are ultimately responsible for yourself, disabled or not. No other human being was born with a contract attached to them that said “must help lev”
don’t bother with the words “community and society”, as the reality is, no one is obligated to do anything for you, ever.
never assume anyone will help you – never rely on goodwill
be careful what you wish for – you may end up with the squits and have no toilet roll.
Again? People need to get a grip and take a look at themselves, mindless idiots…
What stops them putting shopping in car and going back for more i shop once a week and buy what i need be alot of waste food again in awhile just greed and not decent people just selfish
Nothing Pete.my thoughts exactly.people are stupid beyond stupid n selfish .
dont’ care – I will make sure I have enough to see me through any shortages or unexpected situations – i do not care if there is not enough for others, just as long as there is enough for me.
Why not have a limit on the number of properties one can buy
Please don’t buy every thing up, last time I had to go without thing ,I couldn’t get more than normal as on a budget and have no extra money to buy more items, please leave things on the shelf for people like me.
