Following research that has found 72% of those aged between 50 – 60 want to see fun, adrenaline-fuelled activities become more accessible to their age group, Warner Leisure Hotels have launched paddle boarding at Bembridge Coast Hotel on the Isle of Wight.
The introduction of paddle boarding into the hotel group’s range of activities comes following the demand from one in four of those aged between 50-70to take part in the fastest growing water sport, much loved by celebrities’ including Cindy Crawford, Jennifer Aniston and Lewis Hamilton.
To meet the demand of this generation who are refusing to be constrained by the hobbies and traditions of the past, Warner Leisure Hotels has already launched zorbing at Somerset hotel, Cricket St. Thomas in May with plans to trial abseiling later this summer.
The research also reveals that while 56% of men and women in this demographic are up for trying something new, over half (52%) state it is the cost of taking part in extreme activities that is the biggest barrier for them, with almost one in five stating there’s a lack of opportunities for the over-50s to try their hand at paddle boarding.
When asked why they want to take part in more adrenaline-fuelled activities, a quarter (23%) stated it was to make them feel more alive, with another quarter stating they wanted to have more fun (24%).
Warner guests are now able to sign-up and enjoy the new water sport at Bembridge Coast Hotel with the activity taking place in the stunning Whitecliff Bay and Lane End Beach areas.
Warner Leisure Hotels’ guest, Michael Langdon comments:
“Paddle boarding is the perfect sport which connects fitness with the element of having fun. My wife and I are always up for trying new activities so when we found out the sport was available at Bembridge, we just couldn’t resist and had to have a go. We’ll certainly be coming back to the resort to improve our paddle boarding skills.”
Simon Thompson, Managing Director at Warner Leisure Hotels, comments:
“Society has moved on and it’s clear our guests are refusing to be defined by the hobbies and traditions of the past. Instead they possess a hunger to take part in more adrenaline-fueled activities usually reserved for younger generations, such as paddle boarding and zorbing.
“We want to help make fun activities, like paddle boarding and zorbing, more accessible to this generation which is why our guests will be able to book themselves onto these activities during their breaks. We’ve already received a fantastic reaction from guests who are zorbing the hills of Somerset, so we’re hoping the introduction of paddle boarding will appeal to those who like to visit our coastal villages!”
