UPDATED: Island Line services have been suspended today (Sunday) due to a landslip that has caused dirt and gravel from three gardens to fall onto the track.
A South West Trains spokesperson has told Island Echo that the slip has occurred between Sandown Station and Shanklin Station and is likely to cause disruption well into this afternoon.
A duty operational manager is currently en-route to the scene to assess the damage and to coordinate the clean-up operation. A series of trees hanging dangerously low across the line, related to the slip, are also causing a problem and contractors are currently removing these.
UPDATE @ 13:35 – Island Line have told Island Echo that the landslip is not as serious as first feared and is not a threat to the network. The overhanging trees are being cut down and it is expected services will resume once this has been completed.
UPDATE @ 18:50 – Island Line services have now been resumed. Our live updates continue below.
