The Cowes Floating Bridge will be out of service for a few hours on Tuesday night to allow for some minor maintenance works to be completed.
The Isle of Wight Council says that the decision has been taken to bring the service to a halt between 19:30 and 22:30 tomorrow in order to minimise disruption to users.
A foot passenger launch will be in operation between East Cowes and Cowes during the period of suspension.
The service will recommence at 22:30 and run as normal for the rest of the night.

I actually turned down an offer of employment in East Cowes due to the unreliability of this floating piece of excrement. Surprisingly, I didn’t much fancy the prospect of an 11 mile detour/cycle ride (I don’t use cars anymore and I cant afford the rip off fares that the busses charge) on a regular basis, from West Cowes.
Thanks IOWC for persisting with this total gross insult to the people that pay your salaries.
Spends more time being repaired than in service.
The old one could be brought back int service with fewer breakdowns.
I have never used the new heap , could not trust it to be taken to other river bank.
“The service will recommence at 22:30 and run as normal for the rest of the night” ie broken down again by the morning.
A better time would be from 1 am to 4 am…
Just pull the plug out and sink the wretched thing. Or isn’t our beloved council capable of doing even that?
Maintenance works again how long before it will before it will need more work doing to it that’s supposing it does not break down again in the mean time??
Minor Maintenance, it`s broke or it’s about to break.
Minor maintenance?
Surely that could have been done the last time it broke down.
So something else has been found that requires maintenance on, makes you wonder what they are trying to hide as they have not stated what needs doing.
It’s still in service?!
Blimey . . . Better call the Guinness Book of records.
Here we go again and to think our council tax is going up sky high to waste more money on this
