UPDATED: The discovery of a small hole has forced the suspension of the Cowes Floating Bridge today (Sunday), a week ahead of planned maintenance and an inspection by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
At around 10:30 this morning the chain ferry was taken out of service, however it is hoped that the East Cowes to West Cowes service will resume by 05:00 tomorrow (Monday).
A small passenger launch is in operation, taking just 10 passengers at a time, until the hole can be inspected at low tide and repaired – if possible.
An annual inspection of the aging vessel is due to take place from 7th April.
UPDATE MONDAY AM: The East to West Cowes chain ferry service remains suspended this morning. A passenger launch is in operation.
UPDATE MONDAY PM: A normal service has been resumed between East and West Cowes.
