Foodies will be treated to some of the finest local produce on board the Red Osprey tomorrow (Wednesday) as The Garlic Farm hosts a pop up shop on the ferry throughout the day.
Red Funnel is supporting the Garlic Farm, which has been growing garlic on the Isle of Wight for over 40 years, to take its produce to the seas and a new audience. The shop will showcase some of the Garlic Farm’s best selling produce lines, including Hot Plum Chutney, Roast Garlic Jam and Chilli & Garlic Dressing. Passengers will be able to purchase their favourites on Red Osprey sailings from East Cowes at 09:30 until the shop’s last sailing at 17:00 from Southampton.
Jonathan Green, marketing and communications director at Red Funnel, said:
“As keen supporters of the Garlic Festival we couldn’t wait to bring some of that amazing local produce to passengers on board our ferries.
“Red Funnel is a huge supporter of local produce and we know our customers share our passion for local products and suppliers”.
The pop up shop will be just a taste of what is to come from the Isle of Wight Garlic Festival on 15-16 August. Tens of thousands of people are set to flock to the Isle of Wight to check out the hundreds of stalls selling tasty treats, giant garlic and food marquees, beer tent, and a huge variety of live music and entertainment. Whilst the world famous Isle of Wight garlic is used to flavour a variety of foodstuffs including the more unusual garlic fudge, ice cream, popcorn, biscuits, scones and sweetcorn.
Keen cooks will also enjoy the large food theatre, where chefs such as TV’s Rachel Khoo will demonstrate techniques and recipes.
