Fears are growing that a large section of the West Wight coastline could fall into the sea following the appearance of a 3/4 mile long crack and landslip on Headon Warren near Totland.
The ground has dropped around 12ft according to Island Echo readers, from Hatherwood Point Battery right up the ridge and along the north side of the hill, severing the coastal path which has now been diverted.
Members of the public are urged to take extreme caution across the warren, with the ground remaining unstable.
On the opposite side of the Island, a major operation involving the Army and emergency services continues to evacuate residents from Undercliff Drive near Ventnor.
